Their Bodies. Their Lives. Their Rights. — The Animal Bodily Integrity Campaign
Animals deserve protection from unnecessary and permanent changes to their bodies. Their Bodies. Their Lives. Their Rights. is a UK campaign calling for stronger recognition of animal bodily integrity and a more individualised approach to spaying and neutering. We want to examine the evidence, listen to veterinary professionals and animal welfare organisations, explore alternatives, and campaign for decisions that put each animal’s welfare first. We recognise that sterilisation can prevent suffering and unwanted litters in some circumstances. Our aim is to challenge automatic approaches, encourage informed decisions, and open a constructive national discussion about animals’ rights. Because animals cannot speak for themselves, we have a responsibility to consider their interests.
Swindon
To promote recognition of animals’ bodily integrity and campaign for stronger safeguards against unnecessary spaying and neutering in the UK. We aim to raise awareness, examine veterinary evidence, explore alternatives and advocate for individualised decisions that put animal welfare first.
Evidence: Veterinary evidence shows that spaying and neutering can provide health benefits and prevent unwanted litters, but the benefits and risks vary between individual animals. The British Veterinary Association and British Small Animal Veterinary Association support a more individualised approach to neutering dogs, considering factors such as breed, age, health and lifestyle. Our campaign calls for transparent evidence, informed decisions, research into alternatives and greater consideration of animals’ bodily integrity. We recognise that sterilisation can be beneficial or necessary in some circumstances. We want a balanced national discussion about when permanent procedures are justified by animal welfare.
