One Man’s Mission for a Cleaner Swindon: Meet Jamie Baldwin and South Swindon and Stratton Litter Pickers 💙🌿

At 34, Jamie Baldwin is making a real difference across Swindon. After seeing litter build up on local streets, he decided to take action and founded South Swindon and Stratton Litter Pickers in June. What began as a personal initiative has grown to cover six parishes, with Jamie travelling to areas where help is needed. Supported initially by South Swindon Parish Council, Jamie received his first two litter pickers and 120 bags free of charge. Since then, he has invested around £250 of his own money in equipment and supplies to improve his efforts. For Jamie, litter picking is about more than keeping streets clean. He finds it relaxing, enjoys the exercise and regularly shares photographs of his work on Nextdoor to show residents what can be achieved. His litter-picking sessions can range from a one-mile walk to a ten-mile trek, sometimes lasting up to six hours. Jamie is also campaigning for greater involvement from local councillors. Recently, he took part in a Pride in Place litter pick in Park North, working alongside councillors and the South Swindon Parish Council team. How you can get involved Jamie welcomes volunteers who want to help make Swindon cleaner. You don’t need to buy your own equipment, as he has supplies available for others to use. His ultimate ambition is to see Swindon become litter-free, but he recognises that this cannot be achieved alone. By encouraging residents to get involved and working with local representatives, he hopes to build a community effort that makes a lasting difference. Want to help? Keep an eye on Swindon Together for updates about upcoming litter picks and opportunities to get involved. Every bag collected makes a difference, and every volunteer helps bring Swindon closer to a cleaner future. 💙🌿
